Dong Ding Oolong - Award Winning Loose Leaf Tea
Dong Ding Mountain is located in Lugu, a tea village in central Taiwan. It has been known as the home of Dong Ding tea plantations since the 19th century. The Lin family has been living and making tea on Dong Ding mountain for generations. Mr. Lin preserves the authentic traditional methods of crafting Dong-Ding Oolong and has won numerous gold medal awards for his Dong Ding Oolong. His most recent award was in 2016 when his tea took first place in a tea tasting competition with over 3000 entrants.
The oldest son of Mr. Lin, the fourth generation of this tea producing family, has apprenticed under his father for many years and has committed himself to pass down this heritage of traditional tea making craftsmanship to the generations that follow him. This is no small commitment as it takes many years of experience to master the skill of withering and roasting tea leaves so that they achieve the traditional characteristics of Dong-Ding tea. The tea master controls the process by paying close attention and carefully adjusting humidity, temperature, and air-flow. The tea that results from this traditional craftsmanship has a sublime nutty and creamy taste sensation with a toasted sweet undertone. This tea is marvelous in the complex interactions of its flavors and aromas. While a hint of natural sweetness lingers in your mouth, it retains the clear and fragrant aroma, which the Taiwanese call "Dong Ding Chi".
When I visited the Lin family at their home, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that despite all of their awards and recognition, they remain humble and dedicated to their craft. They see tea making as a serious art form. They believe in making tea with honesty, sincerity and precision. They believe that every batch of tea which is made carefully and wholeheartedly will speak for itself.
